What’s wrong with saying you’re “not like other girls?”

In my Intro To Feminism class when I was 18, a grown woman told me that I couldn’t be a feminist because I wore dresses and makeup to class. Over the years, I’ve both replicated this internalized misogyny and seen countless examples. Do these sound familiar?
